About this event

Please join us for a 90-minute discussion about serving as a special master. You'll hear from judges, attorneys - and an anthropologist.

We'll discuss the special master field, how special masters are trained, what characteristics are needed to serve as a special master, and how judges are thinking special masters can be helpful in this time of Covid and other stresses on the court system. Anthropology Professor Constanza Ocampo Raeder will close the session by teaching us how to better serve others through gaining cultural competency and learning to listen across difference.

Panelists include Judge Susan Robiner, Judge Michael Davis, Judge Donovan Frank, Judge Jeremy Fogel, Professor Constanza Ocampo Raeder, Randi Ilyse Roth, Roger Haydock, and Amy Gernon.

* We intend that there be no financial barrier for admission to this program. Please contact amy@amygernon.com to assist with registration.

*Application pending for Minnesota CLE elimination of bias credit

The Academy of Court-Appointed Masters (ACAM) is an independent nonprofit association of those appointed as special masters to assist in the administration of justice. ACAM is composed of lawyers and experts seeking to become special masters and those interested in improving the special master profession.

ACAM’s goal is to reach out as broadly as possible to expand and enhance a more diverse special master community. This CLE is one of ACAM’s first steps to meeting that goal by providing an introduction to the world of special masters and insight into what skills courts look for when appointing special masters.
